REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN FOR THE KUUMBA INSTITUTE SUMMER PROGRAM.
The Kuumba Institute serves students that are ages six through sixteen through the Youth Saturday Program, Youth Summer Cultural Arts Program, and the Youth Kwanzaa Program. Students who attend these programs receive hands-on learning experiences in the areas of visual arts, dance, stepping, photography, poetry, arts and crafts, drama, and African drumming. Training and mentoring take place in classroom settings under the leadership of professional artists who specialize in each area.
Students are also exposed to a wide range of outside resources such as field trips to the New Orleans Presbytère, The River Road African American Museum, Congo Square/Armstrong Park, the UNO Wetlands Research Facility, The Algiers Village, the Jazz and Heritage Festival, the New Orleans IMAX and the Aquarium of the Americas, The Whitney Plantation. Students in all programs receive breakfast, lunch and a snack
Ashé Cultural Arts Center is an initiative of Efforts of Grace, Inc., a not-for-profit, 501(c)(3), organization that creates and supports programs, activities, and creative works emphasizing the contributions of people of African descent. Located in Central City New Orleans, the Center provides opportunities for art presentations, community development, artist support, and the creation of partnerships that amplify outreach and support efforts.
