Conversation with an Elder @ 2:00 PM; Ceremony begins @ 3:00 PM

For the 19th consecutive year, Mardi Gras Indians are handed coveted awards at this ceremony.  In addition, there is an induction into the Hall of Fame as well as a Memorial Ceremony.  Another annual feature, Conversation with an Elder Panel, spotlights Frank "Running Deer" Nelson.  The 2017 honorees are:  Kim Welsh, Curator's Choice Award; Malcolm Suber, Jonathan Demme Social Justice Award; Southern University at New Orleans Master of Arts in Museum Studies Program, Community Supporter Award; Spy Boy Horace Anderson, Creole Wild West, Edwin Harrison, Cultural Traditions Award; Royce Osborn, Capturing the Spirit Award;  E.L.L.A. Project(Gene Meneray and Ashley Keaton), Legal Eagle Award; Big Chief Derrick Hulin, Golden Blades, Ike Edwards Soaring Eagle Award; Big Queen Kim Boutté, Mandingo Warriors, Queens Choice Crystal Feather; and Big Chief Keith "Keitoe" Jones, Seminoles, Big Chief Donald Harrison, Sr., Crystal Feather.  For more information contact Cherice Harrison Nelson at (504) 214-6630.
